  • Bruce Willis To Make Directorial Debut

Bruce WillisHe’s saved the world from being smashed to bits by an asteroid with attitude. He’s thwarted the devious plans of German tea leaves – not once, but twice. He even managed to escape from Rob Reiner’s North with his reputation (largely) intact.

But now Bruce Willis is taking on perhaps his biggest challenge to date: he’s directing a movie.

Willis has made vague noises about getting behind the camera at various points throughout his illustrious career, but now that he’s launched a production company called Willis Brothers Films with Stephen Eads and his brother, David (we were hoping it would be Whatchu Talkin’ About, Willis? Films, or something), the time seems to be right.

But Willis won’t be starting off with any high-octane thrills. Instead, he’s signed to direct an indie drama, called Three Stories About Joan, which will star Camilla Belle as a young woman suffering tragedies at three different points of her life that cause her to lose her grip on reality.

Willis will take a cameo role in the movie, with Kieran Culkin also joining the cast.

The film was written by first-time scribes, Christopher Alexander and Sam Applebaum, and will go before the cameras in Shreveport, Louisiana, next month.

Well, we’ve got a lot of time for Bruce at Empire Towers, and so we wish him well with his directorial debut. Now that he’s edged past the 5-0 landmark, perhaps he’s aware that his days as an action star may be growing short, so perhaps Three Stories About Joan is also a preliminary exploration of a different career path, when it comes time to stop killing bad guys and cracking wise.

What do you think, readers – does Willis have what it takes? Are you intrigued by the subject matter he's chosen for his first outing calling the shots? Could this lead to a self-directed Die Hard 5 at some point? As usual, spout forth below.
